An easy guide for home maintenance checklist

When you are ready to buy your dream home, the first thing you want to take care of is the mortgage. The time you put in to look for a house, then arrange the mortgage, making the deal and then finally moving into your new home. Every one of these things takes time and hard work. You begin with the question, how much house can I afford, then end up at owing it.

However, in the journey of buying a home, there is one thing getting little attention. Just as a car needs regular services, a home needs it too as well. This is why, as an owner, you need to know about the home maintenance checklist. Maintaining the home will keep you away from any unforeseen situation as well as save money.

If you are a new homeowner, then you should definitely have the checklist. You will be intimidated since it is a long list. However, once you get the gist of it, it will become easy. You don't' have to do everything at once. Start by doing small tasks over the weekend, leading to more significant tasks.

The monthly home maintenance checklist

Ø Check the HVAC filters - The HVAC filters stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning filters. You will find many experts saying they should be changed monthly. However, it is always not the case if you keep changing the filters every 2-3 months. If you find it challenging to do it, then take the help of a handyman. Changing the filter every month will ensure you have clean air. If it is okay with you, go with cheap filters.

Ø Check the kitchen sink disposal – Over the years, there have been multiple methods to do it. But the best and simple way is to use the Vinegar ice cubes. First, get the ice cubes, put vinegar in it. Then let is freeze. Now, run it through the kitchen disposal.

Ø Checking the range hood filters - First, a range hood filter is installed over the stoves to remove the smokes. If you have never done it before, then you will be happy to know it is elementary to thing to do. First, get a degreaser from the auto parts. It should be mixed with hot water. Let it get settler for a few minutes. After some time, clean it.

Ø Check the fire extinguisher – A simple thing but the important thing to do. We are assuming you know how to use the fire extinguisher. Check if the gauge is showing pressure and switch is in good condition.

The Quarterly home maintenance checklist

Ø Check carbon dioxide detectors - a simple task to do. Your detectors much have a ‘Test’ button. If the alarm is sounding, it’s okay. If not, check to see if the batteries are okay. Replace them if possible. If nothing works, it is better to change the detectors.

Ø Check the garage doors - The federal government in 1993 had mandatory law to have auto-reverse features in the garage doors. It was because of multiple children's death. You can test the by putting a 2*4 on the ground to check where the door closed. It should be reversed after a few seconds. Check the photo-electric sensors too. If it does not work, you have a severe problem. Resolved it immediately.

Ø Check water softener –You do not have to change it every month, but there is no harm in check it. It would minute to do it.

The Annual home maintenance checklist

Ø Check the water heater pressure relief valve – It is always good to check the valve to make sure there are no dust or leaks in it. The heater should work smoothly.

Ø Giving the house a deep clean - every six months, you should give your house a deep clean. Every corner, windows, and appliance should get freed from dusting. It helps in keeping the thing clear.
